This Native Hibiscus (Hibiscus tiliaceus) thrives on the high tide mark, especially where there is an influx of fresh and saltwater. Their open-heart shaped leaves grow up to 15 cm in length and the tree can reach 10m in height. Stunning yellow-orange flowers of this species are often seen floating down the mangrove lined rivers of North Queensland and end up on the tideline of local beaches.
This collection was first exhibited in the “Cassowary Country Exhibition” at Cairns Regional Art Gallery 2009. Please click here for review, artist statement and information about the endangered Cassowary of North Queensland.
