Bark Moth (eye spy)

bark moth by Gerhard Hillmann

During the wet season here in Far North Queensland we see a lot of different moths. Many of them are undescribed species and some are so unique they are beyond description. This one has perfected the art of camouflage by matching the “background” of its surroundings. By doing this it increases the animal’s chances of survival, and therefore its chances of reproducing. Photographed on a friends river property in the rainforest near Kuranda.
