Gerhard uses a variety of techniques
to create his imagery. These methods are a work in
progress always being modified and refined. When he
creates a piece of work he enters a sacred space of creation. This
process is as important as the finished piece
and it is this story of creation that he tries to express
through his art. |

Quite often
gerhard scans found objects and textures directly into
the computer. They are then cleaned up in Photoshop and
used as building blocks for an image. He rarely uses special
effects filters with his work. Textures, objects, photographs
and drawings are all blended together, they are overlapped
with various degrees of transparency and colour hues.
His aim is to create seemless organic photo montages, stylised
and realistic at the same time. Quite often these forms
are suspended in a dark background with gives them a sense
of timelessness and illumination from the inside. |
